THE THE est et restera synonyme de Matt Johnson, son fondateur et chanteur principal depuis la création du groupe en 1979 à Londres, attirant l'attention du monde entier avec le chef-d'oeuvre synthé-noir Soul Mining en 1983. Salué par la critique, THE THE a atteint une renommée internationale 3 ans plus tard grâce à son album Infected sur lesquels on retrouve les succès "Sweet Bird Of Truth" et "Heartland". Après une pause de plus de vingt ans, pendant laquelle Matt Johnson a poursuivi divers projets, THE THE a fait un retour triomphal en 2021 avec l'album live The Comeback Special. En 2024 Matt Johnson et THE THE sont enfi n de retour avec 'Ensoulment' leur très attendu 8ème album studio composé de 12 titres qui honorent le son distinctif du groupe.
